NINJA ASSASSIN

Ninja Assassin is, simply put, a great movie. It is meant to be watched in a large group, popcorn flowing as the gore and body count reaches epic proportions. It doesn't matter what the film is about, who is in it. None of that matters. Ninja Assassin is a visceral experience. A throwback to the good old fashioned, seat of your pants film making. This is what great, mindless, fun movies are supposed to be.
Bravo!

SCOOBY DOO ABRACADABRADOO!

In this brand-new adventure, Scooby-Doo and the Mystery Inc. gang set out on a trip to visit Daphne’s sister Madelyn, who has been studying magic at the Whirlen Merlin Magic Academy. However, when the gang arrives, they learn that the school has been troubled with strange disturbances. Many of its students have fled after reporting sightings of a giant Gryphon that’s frightened them. The gang smells trouble and sets out to investigate.

DVD bonus material includes a featurette titled Scooby-Doo and Puppets Too, which teaches viewers how to create their own scary Gryphon puppet. It’s an introduction to the art of puppet-making, aimed at children (ages 6 to 11) – and the “young at heart”! A real-life puppet maker acts as host and takes us through the process. The piece is also peppered with groovy graphics and fun feature clips from Scooby Abracadabra-Doo.

TOM AND JERRY'S GREATEST CHASES VOL. 4

Probably the most anticipated of the series, for me anyway, because of the inclusion of the 1950 short, Little Quacker. I always loved that duck. Anyway, classic Tom and Jerry the way you love it. This disc includes 14 shorts looking as great as they ever have.

A New Idea: One Sentence Movie reviews!

I have had the opportunity to watch a couple of these films lately that tend to lend themselves to a one sentence movie review. At first I thought this might be cruel, but it actually does the service of a regular review. For this experiment we have A.) The Informant with Matt Damon

DOCTOR WHO THE COMPLETE SPECIALS

And so we bring an end to the David Tennant run of Doctor Who. The new guy looks pretty cool and I will wathc it this spring. It will be no different than when Tom Baker took the fall and was replaced by Peter Davison. Doctors come and Doctors go. We all have our favorite and they take us on some of the most wonderful adventures.
This box set gives us THE NEXT DOCTOR, PLANET OF THE DEAD, THE WATERS OF MARS and the two part THE END OF TIME.
Of the group my favorite would have to be THE NEXT DOCTOR. My least favorite? The long and drawn out THE END OF TIME. I have never been a fan of Russell Davies. The only good thing he did was bring back The Doctor. All the good episodes in the reign of Tennant were done by Stephen Moffat so it will be good to see him take over the show.
That being said, this is a wonderful box set full of extras and beautifully put together. Any Doctor Who completists will need this in their collection.
Be sure to read the little booklet that came with it. The piece by David Tennant is brilliant.

I missed this one when it hit the theaters and I was more than a little sad. See, one of my favorite movies is John Carpenter's The Thing. I love that movie and am actually fond of any flick that takes place in the frozen wasteland. Alien VS Predator? You bet. Now we get the best combination of all time;
Kate Beckinsale and Antarctica. How can you go wrong with this little combo? Answer; You can't!
Kate plays a US Marshall sent to investigate the first murder on Antarctica and the clock is ticking. She has a short time before darkness falls on the icy continent and she is stuck for six months.

TOP GEAR SEASONS 11&12

One of the best shows on television about cars for people that really don't like television shows about cars. From the BBC comes two more seasons of the highly addictive TOP GEAR. In these two seasons we run the gamut from building crappy police cars to the boys taking on the German version of Top Gear. Season 12 actually brings our guys to the United States to test out some muscle cars on the Bonneville Salt Flats. Top Gear is just straight out fun.
