MY LOVE AFFAIR WITH COMIC BOOKS Chapter 3

So, there is a good chance that we might be doing a weekly trip to the comic book shop. That would make for more frequent posts and shorter ones. You'll know if I'm back here on Thursday. IN the meantime, here's the stack;

 

DOOM PATROL #4

After a couple of months with no book we get more Doom Patrol. The issue with Negative Man comes to a head and it makes the whole character more interesting than he has ever been. Meanwhile Casey Brinke, ambulance driver discovers she is so much more and is out to find out her destiny. I have always liked Doom Patrol and the freaky issues are a lot of fun. The artwork by Nick Derington is phenomenal. I have no idea who the bad guy is at the end and am stopping myself from just checking the internet. I'll let it play out on the page.

BLUE BEETLE #5

We have finally got all the players on the page. The local super group, both Blue Beetles and Dr. Fate for a brief instance. We learn a little more about the Beetle armor and The Posse does a great job helping with the bad guy Mordecai who works for a bigger badder, unknown bad guy. If I can't have just Ted Kord in a comic book, I'm glad he's in this one. Plus we get investigators Sugar and Spike which was one of the highlights of last years Legends of Tomorrow title. They really need their own book.

GREEN ARROW #16

This is the final issue against the vigilante team The Vice Squad and with the help of the police chief they take them down once and for all. But, there's more to this than what is on the surface and one of them pays for it. This is another issue that makes me so happy with Rebirth. It's nice to have Green Arrow and Black Canary together, fighting the bad guys. It's what a comic book should be. And twice a month makes it even better. I hope they can keep the momentum going on this one.

THE FLASH #15

Hot on the trail of the Rogues, (And yes, because Heat Wave is on the cover, I went for the joke.) and he busts a heist for a priceless statue. The only problem is that with Mirror Master on the job not everything is what it seems. The Rogues have devised the perfect plan to stay out of the speedsters grip and even The Flash is not sure where to go next. As I mentioned with Green Arrow, this is another fine example of old school comic books. It's the guy with the super powers fighting criminals that he has known for a very long time. They all continue to surprise one another and The Flash discovers that not even his speed can solve every problem  A modern day classic.

HAL JORDAN AND THE GREEN LANTERN CORPS #13

After the long drawn out battle with Larfleeze and a wrap up last issue this is what is referred to as a fill in issue. It's a story of the Green Lanterns told by one of their own in the far flung future. They used to do these a lot back in the day and they were always hit or miss. In this case it seems that it has more to do with our current presidential issues than anything else. That is also a good thing.
Best quote that makes our current situation a little better? "Will isn't instinctual. It's never easy. But will chases away fear and rage and greed. It inspires illuminates, shines through the dark where evil things hide. But will needs help. You have to chose it." Not a bad quote to live by if you ask me.

INFAMOUS IRON MAN #4

Victor continues to try and convince everyone that he is trying to be a hero. Hard to believe when you're talking to Dr. Doom and no one believes him. When he hears that Ben Grimm is in Latveria he goes to find that the person he left to watch his country has done a terrible job. He also finds Grimm in bad shape and his mother. I really, at this point can not wait for the next issue. I'm pretty sure this is where it hits the fan. Such a great comic book and I like that even though he has taken up the mantle of Iron Man the ego of Doom supersedes it. One of the best comics Marvel is putting out. Please don;t cancel it.

MONSTERS UNLEASHED #2

Isn't that a great cover? The carnage continues as wave after wave of monsters land on the planet. There is a huge one that Alpha Flight has to take on because of it's size it would destroy Earth. Elsa Bloodstone is on the case and a new wave of extremely familiar monsters arrive to join the fight. That double page alone should be a poster. See, this is what comics should be. Heroes fighting to save mankind from things that have no regard for us. It shouldn't be hero against hero. I have never liked that aspect of story telling. This takes us back to the days when you could tell good from bad, wrong from right. I am still unhappy with the price tag and it will prevent me from getting any of the tie in issues, unless it's a title we are already getting. There's one of those farther down. I will have to judge the ongoing series on it's own merits when it comes out to see if I will have to add it to the regular stuff I already buy.

AQUAMAN # 16
After The Deluge we have an issue of winding down. Aquaman is cleaning up his home town of Amnesty Bay and the rest of the Atlanteans are pitching it to help all across the Eastern Seaboard. I love the art here. Penciller Brad Walker and Inker Andrew Hennessy make this book look awesome. You need a book to wind down with and this is a perfect example of that kind of book. Yeah, sure, there's some bad guy named Warhead planning stuff, but that won;t be for a while and we can just enjoy Aquaman back in his home town helping out. Now if something would stop triggering his fish telepathy he would be fine. Right?

SPIDER-MAN/DEADPOOL #1.MU

This is a Monsters Unleashed tie in. It is also $4.99. Are all of these books going to be over priced? I hope not, but I know that they will. Anyway, Deadpool is lured to a private girl school in the hopes of a chimichanga eating contest. But, the girls are witches and they need Deadpool to summon his satanic wife to bring their dead headmistress back from the dead. Unfortunately, they aren't the best at spell casting so they get Deadpool's BFF instead. Spider-Man. The spell kind of works and Spidey is slowly getting possessed. Also, there's a huge monster they need to fight.
The issue made me laugh. It didn;t really expand on the Monsters Unleashed thing except that there was a big monster. But, it was funny. We normally buy these for my younger daughter, Dandelion, so she will probably enjoy it more than me. Just shows me that the other tie ins would be a huge waste of money. Sorry about the negativity.

MOON GIRL AND DEVIL DINOSAUR #14 & #15

Apparently, I missed an issue so we picked them both up at the same time. Mon Girl lives on Yancy Street so The Thing comes to pay a visit. The new Hulk that I do not care for shows up because Moon Girl has proven that she is the smartest person in the world. This leads to a Thing/Hulk that ends kind of silly. Meanwhile, Dr. Doom is looking for Moon Girl. This leads to Ironheart showing up. I have had zero contact with this character and this encounter does nothing to make me want to go and read her comic. Also, Dr. Doom might be from another time period. I'm kid of hoping for a Doombot myself. But, they are going to need help so they pay Dr. Strange a visit. Fifteen issues in and not a bad issue. People used to mock me when I told them I was a fan of Kirby's Devil Dinosaur. Guess I showed them, huh?

WONDER WOMAN #15

So, Diana discovered that what she thought was the truth for decades was a lie. Even her godly mental abilities caved from this revelation and she is now in the booby hatch for observation. Meanwhile Steve and Candy have to contact an old ally and we will start to unravel The Truth about Wonder Woman once and for all. This is exciting for me because not only does this kick off a new story arc it is also the new arc for the even numbered books as well. I may be able to finally  pick up Wonder Woman every two weeks instead of once a month. We shall soon see. I have always been a Wonder Woman fan and it's nice to see them dig into what makes her who she is. The cover reminded me of the old Brian Bolland covers we used to always get. Great issue!

FUTURE QUEST #9

As the huge monster attacks the West Coast all the heroes come together. When Frankenstein Jr enters the fray it seems that they might have the upper hand. Too bad no one told The Herculoids that he's on our side. I recently heard that issue 12 is the last of this. That's too bad. This has taken all the heroes of all the Hanna Barbera action cartoons of my youth and put them all together in a united front against an unbeatable force. They should really consider making this a cartoon. DC makes the best cartoons anyway.

THE MISFITS #2

Knowing that their songs are better, the Misfits are forced to take part in a reality show. Stormer is not happy about this and that becomes worse when they decide they want to explore her gay lifestyle and her weight. The two things that actually define Stormer. This issue shows how the band was just starting and how reality shows are anything but. The Misfits came into their own in the Jem and the Holograms title and it's great to see them branch out on their own in a story that is definitely what makes The Misfits who they are.

BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK #5

The government has Blind Apple Mary's guitar and have discovered that while it plays some of the best music in the world, it is also a weapon capable of mass destruction. Since David Lo Pan has brought all the Snake Plisskens from every alternate universe to one place they decide to put the guitar to good use. Jack Burton convinces David Lo Pan that they must work together or die. Lo Pan agrees and summons the greatest monster of all time. It also happens to be another Snake Plissken. I do not believe for an instant that they will be able to wrap this up in one more issue. No way. Sigh, I'm gonna miss this book. It's so damned fun.

JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS #4

The Pussycats are off to Rome to shoot a video, have some fun and play some tunes for their fans. There is also what appears to be love in the air for Josie, but she doesn't always read people the right way. This issue grasps the jet set life of the band like it was in the cartoon and makes it a little more grown up along the way. Also, Melody might be a Sailor Moon. NO idea what that's doing in there. This is the only new Archie book I buy. I prefer my Archie and the gang to be classic style and don;t feel that the new stuff works for me. Hopefully, Josie and the Pussycats will be operating on their own and not plopped down straight in Riverdale. Now wait and see that will happen in like two issues now that I have jinxed it.

JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS OUTRAGEOUS ANNUAL 2017

This is an 'exquisite corpse' style of story telling. Lots of different artists that tell a different part of one story. In this case it's a fan fiction comic book that details the love story of Kimber and Stormer.
This is a pretty nice annual. Slick, heavy paper and cover stock. Gives it some weight. I learned that the current run of Jem and the Holgrams will be ending with issue #26. While I have had some issues with the recent art work I never wanted the book to end. Hopefully, they will see the error of their ways and we will get a new and improved JEM book sometimes in the near future. In the meantime, this is like three issues worth of stuff in one beautiful package. I also realize that I have bought three books this time that are girl band books. Hmmmm, yeah, no that sounds about right.

One last thing; They put out comic book boxes with the Monsters Unleashed theme. I got one. They are super cool. The image on the other side is a Kirby picture. I may have to get more of these.

MY LOVE AFFAIR WITH COMIC BOOKS Chapter 2

I go to the comic book store once every two weeks. If I had more money I would go every Wednesday, but I don;t so, there you are. I have a plan to change that in the near future, but there ya go. Because of that sometimes I miss an issue of a comic book. That's a good way to have me drop a series like a hot rock. In this particular case it would be SLAM! and KISS. I buy enough books so if they can't manage to stay on the shelf for a measly week and a half then I must not need them.
Well, enough of the negativity, on with the show.

AQUAMAN #15

After many months of Aquaman getting set up into a war with the US the end of The Deluge has arrived. Black Manta shows us how crazy he really is and in the end Aquaman comes up with the perfect solution to end the war once and for all. It's pretty ingenious. I did like how one of the presidential cabinet called him Mr. Curry and Aquaman reprimand him and told him to refer to him as Your Majesty from that point forward. Ouch! Great stuff.

JONESY #9

I buy a lot of stuff that writer Sam Humphries is attached to. I believe that his series, Avengers A.I. is one of the best Avenger books ever written and really deserves a second chance. Jonesy tells the tale of a little girl who has the power to make anyone love someone or something else. Now, because of events in her hometown she is sent to live with her mother in the city. Now, she has to deal with rolling garbage cans, restrictive rules and the subway.  The end of the issue does make it better. I love the cute trippy art by Caitlin Rose Boyle.

THE GREAT LAKES AVENGERS #4

Their nemesis Nain Rouge, has been revealed to be the councilman who prevents them from doing super heroics in Detroit. And, if that wasn't bad enough, their Avengers liaison is on her way to their place to give them Hell fro getting in trouble. What could go wrong? As long as you don;t let hot tempered new member Good Boy guard the villain it should be fine, right? Wait, you did what? Uh-oh. Jacob Chabot's art work is perfect for this wacky team and Zac Gorman gives us back the good old GLA that we have known and loved, warts and all.

THE UNCANNY AVENGERS #19

The Marvel horror book that no one knew was a horror book. The Red Skull has the team under his absolute control and now it is time to destroy every super hero on the planet.  Artists Pepe Larraz and Rodrigo Zayas are seriously channel Gene Colan's art style in this book. Writter Duggan is putting the team through a horrific blender as he makes them do things that will cause the casual reader to gasp. Hell, I'm not a casual reader and I gasped. Skull's endgame to reinstate the glory of Hydra is frightening and this book has been leading up to this forever so it's nice to see the resolution on the horizon.  

U.S.Avengers #2

During the FALLOUT crossover I read a couple of issues of The New Avengers and liked it. This team has the sense to add Squirrel Girl into the mix and now they have to deal with a villain from another time line. Luckily they have the Captain America that is the child of Luke Cage and Jessica Jones along for the ride so, it should be too bad, right? I was also impressed how it explained the necessity of Civil War 2. Al Ewing has just plunged right into the mix in the second issue which is awesome and Paco MEdina and Juan Vlasco give us some awesome artwork to go with what could be the best new book out of Marvel in a long time.

GROO: FRAY OF THE GODS  #4

We end the four issue mini series with The Star God finally getting what comes to him. Groo gets in battle after battle while eating all the food in sight. Groo is one of those things from the old days of comics. It looks exactly and sounds exactly like it did decades ago when it was first introduced. This is a good thing. I'll go so far as to say it's a great thing. It's like that comfortable pair of shoes that you slip into and just say, ahhh. You know what you're getting into and it's awesome. I loves me some Groo.

THE UNBEATABLE SQUIRREL GIRL #16

Doreen is turning 20 so it's time for an origin story flashback the likes of which we have never seen before. Seriously, we get to see her second mission where she saves the Hulk. We see that Doreen always was a hero she just need a squirrel to let her know it. Also there is an awesome birthday party and I'm a little sad that we don;t know what Loki brought her as a present. I've been onboard with this book since the beginning. It's always a good time even when it irritates me. I like that Marvel has kept this quirky thing around for so long.

HELLCAT! #14

Speaking of books that have been around way longer than I thought they would. I give you this. Over a year of awesome adventures. I have no idea why they haven't cancelled the book, but I'm glad it's still here. We get the finale to the huge Black Cat storyline and they settle her ability to enslave peoples minds once and for all. It's another case of perfect writing meeting perfect art. I love when that happens.

POWER MAN AND IRON FIST #12

I have every issue of the old series in bound Essentials issues. I have read them multiple times. I am so happy that there are Netflix series with these guys and this book. This awesome amazing book. Even if you don't like this book you should go grab the recent Christmas Special. It is awesome. There's a war going down in Harlem and everyone is affected. Tombstone says he has an answer, He does and it's literally the worst plan ever. Everyone gets seriously affected by the events in Harlem Burns and the Heroes for Hire decide to increase their roster to take care of business.

DOCTOR WHO #9

The adventures of the Ninth Doctor continue as they travel to 17th century Brazil to find out the secret of an old picture of Jack. They walk straight into a fight with slavers and natives and what appears to be a mermaid. I always liked when Doctor Who came back and I thought Eccelston needed more time as a Doctor. I am so glad for this book and it's continuing the adventures of the Ninth Doctor.

HAL JORDAN AND THE GREEN LANTERN CORPS  #12

Hal is back from the dead and headed to help The Corps with the assistance of Kyle Rayner, The White Lantern and the last remaining people of OA. The Yellow and Green Lanterns are battling the collective forces of Larfleeze, The Orange Lantern and are terribly outnumbered. Then Brainiac does the one thing that can bring fear to the heart of an Orange Lantern. Loss. Specifically, the loss of his stuff. Giving the lanterns the edge they need to win the day.
With the spectacular art of Ethan Van Scriver we get the end of the most recent storyline and a lead in to what might be the best thing ever. Yellow and Green working together. This is the superior of the Green Lantern books being done right now. It feels like classic Green Lantern while embracing all lantern stuff that has gone before. And isn't that what Rebirth is all about?

SCOOBY APOCALYPSE  #9

The team is still on the run and on the road. Velma discovers exactly what is going on and, while we don't know what it is yet, it breaks her heart. We have guest artists this issue which actually works. Ron Wagner and Bill Reinhold give us their own vibe and because the team is stuck in Suburbia, it works really well. The back up story with Scrappy Doo is nothing less than heartbreaking. Of all the Hanna Barbera reboots this one is the most original while giving us the classic vibe of what Scooby Doo has always been; taking out the monsters and revealing the actual evil within.

GREEN ARROW #15
'Still recovering from the effects of recent issues, Green Arrow is forced to go toe to toe with a band of vigilantes named Vice Squad who have broken into prison to kill every prisoner to relieve the financial burden of tax payers. The art by Juan Ferreya is breathtaking and looks like a painting. The story deals with street level crime which is what Green Arrow was always supposed to be about. It's a great book.

CAVE CARSON HAS A CYBERNETIC EYE  #4

Of the Young Animal Imprint, this is my favorite book. We get an obscure character who is a Challengers of the Unknown knock off to begin with and then the cool art by Michael Avon Oeming that just screams Vertigo! Cave has gone back to the cave people to deliver horrible news while forces mount to destroy Cave once and for all. The final panel might be one of the most disturbing things I have seen in a long time. So, classic Vertigo at work. I couldn't be happier.

THE FLASH #14

It is time for the return of what helps to make The Flash great; his Rogues. We find out that since they have disappeared from Central City he has been looking for them, hunting every clue, finding out what their plan is. The book reminds me of the old days when it was The Flash finding the clues like a great detective and hunting down and stopping the bad guys from whatever they were up to. In this case it seems to be a heist. Another case where DC has embraced the past and manages to give us a cooler future in comics.

CAGE! #4

And the epic mini series comes to an end. Genndy Tartakovsky giving us his best blaxploitation merged with the bizarre feel of Samurai Jack. Cage is the last man standing in the gladiator pits of Dr. Soos. And the prize is the worst fight of his life. Will he make it? Will he get to go home? Read the book. I might actually get the trade of this as it reads like such a great big one shot. With this, the Netflix series and the new Powerman Iron Fist book it is a good time to be a fan of Luke Cage. A shame it's just these four books.

KONG OF SKULL ISLAND  #7

The natives have settled on Skull Island and have brought Kong with them. Kong is getting used to the idea of being among dinosaurs and predators that can give her a run for her money. Yeah, see Kong is the name of the species and this lucky lady is from the Kong you have come to know and loves, past. This is obviously setting up the new film out this year, but I heard that was supposed to be over in six issues. This is issue seven so they must have decided to keep going which is great. We get so much background to a legendary film monster. This is the back story that any true fan of King Kong really wanted.

MONSTERS UNLEASHED #1

I saved this one for last. I have something negative to get out of the way first and then we will continue. 4.99 for a book is too much. Marvel, you know this thing has built in fans. There are the crossover junkies that have to have everything so, it's a done deal. Seems a little pricey.
Now, the book is classic Marvel. There are huge monsters attacking every major city on the planet and all the teams in Marvel have gone to take on the threat. Everyone who complains about the heroes fighting each other thing that has been so prevalent lately is out the window. Earth has a monster problem and luckily we have plenty of heroes to save the day. I also like that Elsa Bloodstone is back. I don;t know who the kid is who summoned Fin Fang Foom, but I'm sure all will be explained. I am happy to see a crossover in Marvel that seems made for me. I think the last one I jumped on board for was The Black Vortex.
Just unhappy about that price.

MY LOVE AFFAIR WITH COMIC BOOKS Chapter 1

So, there was a stack of new comics. This happens when you go once every two weeks. Ready to dig in? Let's hit it!

HOLLISTON: FRIENDSHIP IS TRAGIC
I do not remember when I found Adam Green's show Holliston. All I know is it is one of my favorite shows and I watch each episode multiple times. I don;t watch his movies. I've never seen a Hatchet or Frozen...nothing. But this show is the best. I was sad when Oderus passed on to Valhalla, but this comic is a perfect extension of the show. I hear they are bringing a new season to light in the near future and can't wait to see it. In the meantime, this feels like an episode of the show if they had a huge budget. I hope they decide this is a good idea and do more of them in the future.

INFAMOUS IRON MAN #3
After Civil War 2 Dr. Doom, who's face was fixed in the new Secret Wars thingie, decides to become the new Iron Man and do good. This issue explains why and some of the artwork in this is breath taking. I loved it when Avengers AI had a Doombot on the team. This is ten times better than that because even though he is Iron Man right now he will be Doom forever.

KLAUS AND THE WITCH OF WINTER
One of my favorite series of last year was Grant Morrison doing the origin of Santa Claus. Simply titled Klaus, it gave us the origin of the man in the suit. Now, this one shot gives us a little more. It explains why we see Santa differently depending on where we are. The Story telling is brilliant and the art work From Dan Mora is so pretty to look at. I like how he folded in other mythologies to go with the story. It makes perfect sense. A great add on to a great series. 

THE GREAT LAKES AVENGERS#3
I have always been a fan of this group since it came about in West Coast Avengers. In issue three we get a new member, Good Boy, who is a werewolf who when he's not a werewolf, turns into a girl. The team has been told not to do any super heroing in Detroit, but when Mr. Immortal comes back from the grave, what else can you do. This is such a great, fun book with some epic art by Will Robson.  May it last for a hundred issues.

THE UNCANNY AVENGERS #18
Since Volume One of this series, Red Skull has been a big pain in the butt for this team. Stealing the brain of Charles Xavier and implanting it into his own he has spent his time learning how it works and slowly infiltrating the team to make his dream come true. Destroying every super hero and taking over the world. With his daughter in tow they bend the will of Quicksilver and send him on a mission of destruction.
This has been a great book. Infinitely better than Volume One and holding its own with a team as weird as they come. They had me at Brother Voodoo and when you have Cable fighting a zombie Hulk you know you're reading a great book. I hope it stays that way and they keep this book around.

U.S.AVENGERS #1
Because of Avengers Standoff I read a lot of books I normally wouldn't have. New Avengers lead by Sunspot was one of them and now it has become something new. Throw in Cannonball, one of my favorite New Mutants and Squirrel Girl and we have a pretty good team. I don't know who the Red Skull with a gold head is, but he seems interesting and I love that they have brought in the Captain America from the future that is the child of Luke Cage and Jessica Jones. First issues can tend to be a little clumsy, but they move things along while introducing the team in a way that brings you up to speed in one and done. Can't wait to see where we go from here. They also do a thing that gives highlights of what we will see this year from the U.S.AVENGERS. Pretty cool.

BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA/ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK #4 of 6
I had to buy it! Look at that title. And when Jack Burton and Snake Plissken are sent into an alternate reality to save a blues singer, you know it's going to be a weird ride. We also are given a look at Snake PLisskens throughout the multiverse and Jack Burton might be one! I am interested to see how they are going to wrap this up in two issue. We shall see!

FUTURE QUEST #8
When DC said they were reimagining some of the classic cartoons of Hanna Barbera I was skeptical. Since then Scooby Apocalypse manages to do a great job while using a whole new story concept and Future Quest gives us a story that entwines favorites like Space Ghost, The Herculouids, Jonny Quest and so many more.With new artist Ariel Olivetti we get a look that reminds me of the old Doctor Zero from Marvel's Shadowline series.  We are also coming to a head with what started it all...The Omnikron and it's terrible plan for the human race. This is what the rest of the series has been leading up to, little tastes of all of our favorites. I would guess that next issue is all out war and I can't wait to see what happens next.

THE FLASH #13

Barry and Iris are on a date and Kid Flash is there to make sure nothing happens to wreck it. Along the way he runs into Tarpit who is robbing stores, but for a great reason and Kid Flash has to remember being a true hero doesn;t always involve fighting bad guys. There's a peek into the return of Captain Cold. The Rogues haven't been around since Issue 2 so, it will be interesting to see thme in Rebirth.

HAL JORDAN AND THE GREEN LANTERN CORPS #'s 10 & 11
Hal paid the ultimate price to get rid of Sinestro's Warworld and now the original Guardians of OA need Kyle Rayner, The White Lantern to bring him back. Meanwhile, the rest of The Corps are shrunk down by Brainiac and turned over to none other than Larfleeze.
This has been a fun book. I don't buy the other book for no other reason than to me Hal Jordan will always be Green Lantern.

BLUE BEETLE #4
See, my Blue Beetle will always be Ted Kord. Not a fan of the new one, but he's growing on me. If Ted wasn't in the book I don't think I would buy it. This is an origin issue so if people were on the fence on this book it would be a greatb place for new comers to start. Some body named Kolins does the artwork. It has a cool, scratchy style that works well with the book. I'm glad that Ted didn't stay dead. We always need a Blue Beetle.

AQUAMAN #14
Since the first issue all Aquaman every wanted was for everyone to get along. He's not a war monger. He thinks that Atlanteans and Surface Dwellers can get along. He is proven wrong in every issue of this comic. Sure, there are people that do get along, but neither group really gets along with the other. Now, The United States have sent their crack team of mutated beings, The Aquamarines, down to assassinate Aquaman. Like that's gonna happen. But, in their zeal to destroy Aquaman they give away the mastermind who is behind it all and Aquaman confronts him in the end of the issue. The rest of this particular storyline is going to be awesome.

GREEN ARROW #14
Someone is setting Green Arrow up. They are going through the city and killing people with Green Arrows. The police are on his trail and Oliver is in a football stadium, surrounded by angry fans who want blood because they think he killed the quarterback. The shadowy figure behind the scheme is revealed at last. I kinda knew it was him. This is one of those books that nails it every issue and I look forward to as much as Aquaman.

WONDER WOMAN #13

I always buy the odd numbered issues of this because the even numbered ones are a year one story and since I just sank money into the excellent LEGEND OF WONDER WOMAN mini series I saw no reason to get a new origin. Now, the year one ends next issue so I'm curious to see how things go. Especially since Diana just found out that everything she had believed for a very long time has been wrong. It's too much for her. This whole series has been so good and it makes Wonder Woman something fresh and new again. Not too shabby for a 75 year old character.

Okay, there's the first rundown for my buy pile. I liked all of the books. Naturally, or I wouldn't have bought them. I'll see you all in two weeks with what comes next. Go get some comics!

GUESS WHAT?

Yeah, it's been over a year. Yeah, the sea of comic reviewing has been just as hostile. Over at my other blog, Divine Exploitation, I had an Epiphany;
Just because everyone else doesn't get it, doesn't mean we can't just talk about comic books over here, right?  
So, as I outlined in my most recent post over at Divine Exploitation, I will be reviewing comics over here again.
Sort of.
See, I buy my comics every two weeks because, well, I get paid every two weeks.
So, every two weeks I will be writing about the comics I bought.
See, I think that makes a difference. These are comics that I spend my hard earned money on. No freebies. Chances are if you don't see a comic listed it's because I don;t read it. So, no Superman, Batman, Deadpool, you know, the popular stuff.
Each column will be called My Love Affair With Comic Books with a chapter number afterwards. It'll be super easy to follow.
So, come back next week because I get paid today and my lovely Martha's birthday is tomorrow so, I'll probably read a stack of comics on Sunday.

Goodbye

So, here I am at work. It's not busy so I decided to surf the internet and see what was on the news. Went to CNN. There was the horrible California shooting. I saw one of those year in pictures things and clicked on it.
Big mistake.
There was a shot of a small two year old boy, a Syrian refugee washed up on the beach. People walking around and leaving this poor child face down in the sand and the first thing someone think of is to take a picture?
Yeah, you call it news. I'll stick with the destruction of human decency and leave it at this.
You win Internet.
I quit.
I'll just write my stupid little books. Publish my stupid little mini comics and zines. I need the Internet for those, but that's it.

I kept this blog for Larry Stanley. I'd like to think he would support my decision in this matter.

It is 3/23/2016. A little over three months since I wrote this. In that time  I took a month off the internet, use my computer a lot less than I did and am still haunted by the image that caused this post in the first place. Add to that the increasing hostility in comic book reviewing I see no reason to come back here. Divine Exploitation will remain open. Go visit me there.
